About This Website

This website is designed to give a brief overview of the shipyards and boat yards of Runcorn in Cheshire, England.  The main yards each have a page and the site has some "then and now" photographs.

The website was launched to complement the MORS (Mersey flat OAKDALE Refit Society) one and the book, Shipyards of the Upper Mersey.  All three projects are the work of Bob Ratcliffe.

The picture on the left, care of Mr. Pitaluga of the Falkland Islands, is of the largest vessel ever built in Runcorn, DENNIS BRUNDRIT.  She was a full-rigged ship of 462 tons built by Brundrit & Whiteway in 1856 and wrecked off Centre Island, Falklands (on land owned by the aforementioned Mr. Pitaluga).  The wreck can still be seen today and was visited by the author in 2001 when based at the Mount Pleasant military complex.  The photo on the home page is of two vessels on Stubbs' Slip and is detailed on the page devoted to that firm.
