Society and Website Information

MORS and its component website and Facebook site were founded by Bob Ratcliffe for the purpose of saving the historic Mersey Flat OAKDALE.

Its sole purpose is as stated above and this website exists to gather help and information to document the vessel's history and safeguard her future.

The society was begun shortly after Bob's first visit to the OAKDALE in 2015 (after many years researching her and her sister craft) with his father, Ian.  The day consisted of meeting the owner, David Keenan (with whom Bob had been in telephone contact for some months prior), his dog and cats, and some of his friends in the idyllic town of Askam-in-Furness.  A long discussion on the history of the OAKDALE and her builders followed, and firm friendships were struck.  This meeting was were Bob gained permission from Dave to set-up the website, etc. as part of his ideas to save the last Runcorn-built seagoing vessel.  Future developments will incorporate some of the suggestions made by Bob's good friend, the stand-up comedian, Nick Banks.  Nick is keen to apply his past experience of organising charity events to this cause, which he has embraced from the start.  As an aside, it would be remiss of me not to post Nick's comedy CV, so here it is:
